6 Less Well-Known Museums Around Denver

Are you looking for something to do to get out of the house? But aren’t sure what to do? Spending the afternoon at your local museums are the perfect way to not only learn something new, but can also help curb those feelings of being stuck at home.

Today we’ve compiled a list of some of the smaller, less well-known museums you can find around Denver and surrounding areas. And you’ll want to believe us when we say, you’re going to want to check out each one of these places. 1) Limon Heritage Museum

At Limon Heritage Museum, there is so much more than just a small museum to explore. This large complex includes a railroad depot and train cars, a one-room school house, the exhibit building and so much more. While the museum grounds are open year round, the exhibits are only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

2) Wings Over the Rockies

Located in Hanger #1 of the former Lowry Air Force Base in eastern Denver, the Wings Over the Rockies museum boasts over 182,000 square feet of hanger space. You can experience flight simulators, educational programs, as well as see some iconic aircrafts and artifacts. Plus so much more.

3) Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum

Here you can see over 15,000 square feet of rocks, minerals, fossils and so much more. Check out the indoor cave, where you can find minerals that glow. And if you’re up for a hike, head out on the Bob Weimer trail to explore the triceratops trackways. There is so much to see that you might consider stopping in a few times.

4) Molly Brown House Museum

In 1970, Historic Denver saved this historic home of Margaret “Molly” Tobin Brown, a survivor of the Titanic. Now you can experience a guided tour of the museum where you learn about Molly’s activism, philanthropy, and passion.

5) Museo de Las Americas

The premier Latin American art museum in the Rocky Mountain region has been serving the Denver community for 30 years and is located in the heart of the art district on Santa Fe. The Museo de Las Americas is dedicated to educating the community through collecting, preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the arts and cultures of Latin America.

6) Frisco Historic Park and Museum

The town of Frisco offers a chance for you to go back in time to explore history in an up-close and personal kind of way. And the museum is one of the great opportunities you won’t want to miss out on. With the collection of original historic buildings, and photographs that tell the lively stories Frisco’s past. To fully experience the extensive train diorama in the Schoolhouse Museum, you’ll want to bring some quarters.
